We think that, the culture in Denmark makes us dansish. For example our traditions, activities and our community. One of our festivals is christmas. At christmas we eat duck, roast pork, potatoes, rice pudding and of course cumberland sausage. We are dancing around the christmas tree and singing a lot of songs. Somebody go to church and have a lovely time with their families.
Sport is very important for us i Denmark, specially handball and football.
That is why we feel danish.

Why are we Danes? Well, in our minds it mostly because we are born in Denmark. We are Danish, like our parents and their parents. We do not think that just because you have lived in the country for some years you can call yourself a Dane, only if you are born here. Danes have some traditions that other cultures do not have, and when you learn and respect these you could be called a Dane. This is stuff like eating pork, speaking your mind, celebrate Christmas in our way and drink alcohol. This is, in some way “the Danish way to run”. But, of course you still have to follow your beliefs, but you would still have to respect and not indignity our way of living, which also includes learning the language, getting an education and a Danish job, and also learn the Danish values, because this proves that you really want to be a part of the country, and not just get the benefits of it. That is, in our minds, what makes you a Dane.

Being Danish
Dear 2c students
I´m a Dane, but what makes me a Dane? Is it my Danish passport or is it the fact that I live in Denmark?
Is nationality something you are born with or something you are able to choose?
What do you think?
